Rock Pile Mountain Trail

Mark Twain National Forest

Location:
Madison County

News, Updates, & Warnings:
Open to hunters during hunting seasons.

Directions:

From Fredericktown, take Hwy 67 south to Hwy C, turn southwest.  Drive to County Road 406, turn right.  Follow to Forest Road 2124, turn left and continue to the trailhead at top of mountain.  Very Steep climb for the last half mile or so.  Not recommended for anyone without a 4 wheel drive.  There is a spot to park on the left side of Forest Road 2124, about a half mile from the turn, right before the steep grade going up.

Miles of Trails:
2 miles of maintained trail.  Extra riding available on forest roads.

Trail Notes:
Extremely beautiful but rocky area.  There are only 2 miles of maintained trails with a lot of old logging roads and un-maintained trails to follow.  There is an old mound of rocks on Rock Pile Mountain, which is of course, where it got it's name.  I have not been able to find it yet.  Be sure to have a map and compass.  No water crossings, very dry area.  Look out for rattlesnakes, copperheads, ticks and yellow jackets during the summer.

Other Trail Users:
Hikers and hunters.
