Yes, there is a shooting range here, about a half mile past the camping area.

Open to hunters during hunting seasons.
There is a shooting range closeby, so make sure your horses are used to the sound of gunfire.

Directions:
From Cape Girardeau, take Hwy 72 northwest to Hwy 34.  Turn west on Hwy 34 and travel about 34 miles to Hwy Y.  Turn south on Hwy Y and follow 5 miles to County Road 708.  Turn east for 0.4 of a mile to the equestrian trailhead parking lot and campground on the right.

You could drive on the gravel roads in the area but it's not allowed and not feasible on the trail.

19.5 mile loop.

Trail Notes:
This multi-use trail is moderately difficult with some rocky areas, steep hills, bluffs, creeks, and deadfall to negotiate.  It's a beautiful area to ride in.  Horses are not allowed in Blue Pond Nature Area, but you can tie your horse up and walk in to see the shut-in area.
