There are new camping and parking rules. All of the back-in slots in the large parking area are for camping only. No day use parking in those slots. If you park there you need to pay the camping fee. Day use parking, as well as primitive camping spots are back in the wooded back camping area. You can also park in between the camping slots for day use, just do not block the camping slots. They have also added manure bins, wheel barrows, and manure forks. Please clean up after your horses in the campsites and trailhead parking.
Directions:
From St. Louis, take I-44 west to the Six Flags exit, just west of Eureka. Follow the road north, past Six Flags. Parking and trailhead are at the Mustang Center on the right. The road is hilly and curvy.

Trail Notes:
This trail is a personal favorite of mine and I highly recommend it. Most of the trails are quite rocky, so you'll want your horse to be shod or have hoof boots. Contrary to the fact that this trail is highly used, it usually doesn’t feel crowded (except in the parking area, which is often quite full). If the parking lot is full, I have seen horse trailers parked at the lot just south of the equestrian parking at the trailhead for Declue Trail. Even though this is in St. Louis County, I've seen more deer here than anywhere else I've ridden. Due to a large number of trail re-routes, there are many side trails off the official trails that are no longer open to use. Not all of these are well-marked, although many are obvious. Other side trails lead off to private property. Take care to stay on the open trails.
