Columbia Bottom Conservation Area Trail

Missouri Dept of Conservation

Location:
St. Louis County

News, Updates, & Warnings:
This trail sustained a lot of damage in the floods at the end of 2015.  Be sure and call to check the status of this trail before travelling to ride.

Directions:

From St. Louis , at the junction of I-40 and 270, take I-270 north to Riverview Drive , exit 34.  Turn north (left) on Riverview Drive and follow until you get to the Conservation Area.  (road name changes to Columbia Bottom Rd at Larimore Rd ).  Turn right into Columbia Bottom Conservation Area by the sign.  Follow the road to the trail head parking on right.

Miles of Trails:
6.8 mile loop and spur

Equestrian Camping:
Not Allowed.

Trail Notes:
The trail that is open to equestrians is a gravel road through a generally flat field with crops and ponds along each side.  A spur off the main loop leads to the confluence area with restrooms, a water fountain, and a walkway out to the confluence overlook.  Horses are not allowed on the walkway, but there is a hitching rail available near the restrooms.  The spur is literally next to the paved road leading to this area, so traffic will be passing right next to you and your horse.  The only other hazards are the potential for large flocks of waterfowl to take flight next to you, and the trail would be very hot in the summer as there are no trees along
the trail.

Other Trail Users:
Hikers, dog trainers (during correct seasons) and hunters.
