Directions:
Ottery Creek Trailhead: From Potosi, take Hwy 21 south to Hwy 32. Go west on Hwy 32 to Hwy A. Turn south on Hwy A, pas the sign that points to the left for Bell Mountain. Continue on Hwy A to the parking area on the right, just past the second Ottery Creek Bridge.
Miles of Trails:
2 miles of linear trail, plus an additional 12 miles at Bell Mountain Wilderness.
Equestrian Camping:
Yes, primitive dispersed camping allowed.
Trail Notes:
Only the northern-most 2 miles of this trail, from the Ottery Creek Trailhead to the Bell Mountain Wilderness turn-off, are open to equestrian use. There is a sign marking the turn. The trail is marked with white diamonds and the trail corridor is well traveled and easy to follow. This trail is extremely rocky, steep, and rugged, with several challenging sections including switchbacks and large rock ledges to negotiate. The summertime heat can be oppressive since the trail climbs a south-facing slope and has many open glade areas. Couple with the lack of water, this trail might be better ridden in the spring or fall. This area has a lot of snakes including copperheads and rattlesnakes.
